Hope is a thing of feathers . . .
Feathervane is one manifestation of an ongoing body of work by that name — an inquiry of optimism as structure.
A single feather, laser cut as biomimetic aluminum lace, balances forty inches above its base on a line so fine the object more hovers than stands. Every perforation was drawn from months of structural feather microscopy — biology reified in line, fragility redefined as poise.
Feathervane evolves directly from Resistance. And Then . . ., the nearly 45-foot public sculpture marking the historic and geographic entry of the Del Rio Trail — Sacramento's milestone 5-mile park and greenway. Provenance extends to the landmark itself — commissioned by the City as part of its permanent public art collection.
Light fractures across and through the cuttings, casting shifting drawings as shadow. A minimalist gesture — lightest touch, greatest impact — and structure becomes atmosphere.
